Deep Thinkers - Wollongong Chess Club News

12 January 2025 · Illawarra

Find out all about what the Wollongong Chess Club is up to.

New Year Blitz Tournament

On Tuesday night we welcomed members back with a blitz tournament. We played this at 3min + 2sec per move. This is faster than we usually play in Wollongong but matches the time control used around the world.

We had 17 players and welcomed four new players to over the board chess. Congratulations to Joerg Raichle who won the tournament on 9.5/11

The results show the 15 players who came along for 7 of the 11 rounds.

Holiday Rapid Tournament

Over the next two weeks we will be playing our holiday rapid tournament. This has a time control of 15min + 5sec per move, the same used at local junior events. If you know any juniors who are keen chess players, bring them along!! There will be four games each Tuesday evening giving us an 8 round tournament.
